From the Burn Pile to the Office.

I got the idea for a desk like this after seeing one that my mom (Elegant Barn) had done. Thanks to the heads up from a friend, I found the base on the curb. The barn wood was courtesy of my mom and a couple of friends.
This project mostly involved sanding. After attaching the boards, all I did was add a satin poly and she was good to go! This piece is now the center piece of my husband's rustic/industrial office.
I didn't have to do a thing to those legs. Love them just as they are.
The desk and pallet wall really compliment each other. ( I apologize the picture isn't more clear; needed more light!)

Antique Side Tables Turned Rustic

I often find old tables with the leather tops. While you can paint them, I wanted to do something a little different with these.

I sanded, primed, painted, and distressed the bodies. After removing the old tops, I secured reclaimed pallet wood to the tables to give them a rustic chic look.

The little imperfections and different coloring on the wood really gave these character.

These were my first Craigslist sale so it was a little bitter-sweet to see them go, but I was pleased to see them go to someone so happy to get them!

Reuse and Recycle

I try to do lots of different types of projects. The one thing that they all have in common is that at least one part in each piece came from re-used or recycled materials. What I really love is taking something that someone assumed was worthless, and re-imagining it to give it new purpose. The chalkboard below is a great example of this. The frame is an old cabinet door that probably had glass in it at one point. The wood that I made the chalkboard out of, used to be a different cabinet door. Whether it be old frames, cork board, or paint, don't be so quick to throw away. Take a minute to think about how your old items may be given new life!

Just Starting Off

It seems like everyone is blogging these days so I thought I would jump on the bandwagon. I am always finding new ways to re-purpose old cast offs, either from the curb or thrift stores, and I thought this would be a fun way to share my projects and ideas. I hope to hear feedback on other great ways to re-fined those lost treasures!
